MOZART: BASSOON & CLARINET CONCERTOS
Klaus Thunemann, Bassoon
Klaus Thunemann, born in Magdeburg in 1937, originally had the desire to become a concert pianist. At the age of 18, however, he discovered the bassoon. He studied with Willy Fugmann in Berlin and received his diploma in 1960.
From 1962 to 1978 Klaus Thunemann played as a soloist with the Hamburg NDR Symphony Orchestra. He was the only bassoonist (as well as the Only German musician) to win a prize at the ARD Competition in 1965.
In addition to his performances with the German Bach Soloists and with his own Chamber music ensemble (with Paul Meisen, Ingo Goritzki and Hedwig Bilgram), solo soncerts, regular collaboration with the NDR ("Das Neue Werk") as well as solo recordings with a great many broadcasting stations, Klaus Thunemann is also a devoted teacher. He has taught at the Musikhochschule Hannover Since 1970, first as an assistant lecturer and since 1978 as a professor.
Thomas Friedli, Clarinet
Thomas Friedli, born in 1946, has been the solo Clarinetist with the Berne Symphony Orchestra since 1971. He studied in Berne and with R. Kemblinsky in Lausanne, where he received his “Licence de Concert”. This was followed by a prolonged stay in Paris in order to study with Jacques Lancelot.
In 1972 he was awarded the first prize for Clarinet and the "Prix Ernest Ansermet" at the International Competition for Musical Performers in Geneva. Other prizes soon followed; the first prize at the Forte dei Marmi Competition, the soloist's prize of the Schweizerischer Tonkünstlerverein, and he was a laureate at the UNESCO "Tribune international de jeunes interprètes" in Bratislava.
Thomas Friedli regularly performs in Western and in Eastern Europe. He has given two extended concert tours in South America and has performed at the festivals in Lucerne, Ibiza, Stresa, Gstaad, Zurich, Echternach, Bratislava and Meiringen.
Thomas Friedli is equally interested in works from the Classic and Romantic periods, as well as in modern music, and has a particular preference for bringing neglected works to life. He has premiered concertos by Swiss composers Andres, Sutermeister, Tischhauser and Veress. Thomas Friedli has led a master class at the Geneva conservatory since 1978.
