SCHOECK: DAS HOLDE BESCHEIDEN, OP. 62, LIEDER UND GESÄNGE NACH GEDICHTEN VON EDUARD MÖRIKE
Three of the world’s outstanding artists of the German lied have joined together to make this world-premiere recording: Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, the paragon of lied interpreters, mezzo-soprano Mitsuko Shirai, the new star of this genre, and pianist Helmut Höll, long-time accompanist of both singers. This recording also represents the last documentation of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau’s art.
(1993) Schoeck: Das Holde Bescheiden, Op. 62, Lieder und Gesänge nach Gedichten von Eduard Mörike - CD 9308-9
«Das holde Bescheiden» [The Just Measure] is Swiss composer Othmar Schoeck’s last and most important song cycle. The forty songs on poems by Eduard Mörike were composed between 1948 and 1949 and represent the epitome of Schoeck’s art. Schoeck divided his cycle into five sections: Nature, Love, Observation, Belief and Reminiscence. It was first performed on 25 April 1949 in Stuttgart by the composer’s wife Hilde, accompanied on the piano by the composer himself.
