VIRTUOSO PIECES FOR VIOLIN & PIANO
Daniel Röhn already made a name for himself in the Claves family with his recording of Mendelssohn’s celebrated Concerto in E Minor with David Heer and the Orchestra Istropolitana (CD 50-2102) four years ago. Today he presents a more personal work made up of pieces for violin and piano from a grand repertoire that he describes himself in the program notes, from Schubert’s Fantasy in C Major to Franz Waxman’s Carmen Fantasy (Fidelio Music Publishing Co.) by way of miniatures by Manuel Ponce, Brahms, Debussy and Moritz Moszkowski.
He performs on a magnificent Amati violin dated 1617, on loan from the Chicago Stradivari Society, capturing the wonderful emotional realms of this music and perfectly matched to the warm, sensual sonorities of Milana Chernyavska’s piano accompaniment.
Virtuoso music making!
He is the grandson and the son of two distinguished German violinists; his grandfather was the solo violinist of the Berlin Philharmonic under Furtwängler!
