FRENCH MASTERPIECES FOR PIANO FOUR HANDS
These original compositions for piano four hands represent the particularly elegant and cultivated aspects of French music. Ravel’s Ma mère l’oye, Bizet’s Jeux d’enfants und Fauré’s Dolly are reflections of childhood. Each of them presents a different side of childhood and youth: the world of dreams and fantasy, the world of games, and the secretive, inner world of every child.
André Messager’s Trois Valses originales are wonder-fully lyrical and reminiscent of times long past. The compositions by Auric, Poulenc and Milhaud (all three were members of the famed group Les Six) provide a telling contrast to the refinement and aristocratic elegance of Fauré and Ravel. The Duo Crommelynck offer a wonderful interpretation, a renewed demonstration of their deep understanding for music for piano four hands.
