FAMOUS CLASSICS TRANSCRIBED FOR HARP SOLO
The young virtuoso presents here his first solo recording featuring transcriptions for harp of classical masterpieces. “The main problem with the harp is the question of its repertoire,” he remarks in the program notes. “There are indeed a few masterpieces by composers such as Debussy or Ravel, but they have unfortunately remained exceptions. I wanted to play first-rate music by famous composers who are dear to me. Luckily one can make arrangements, particularly of piano music. This is not possible of course in every case, but many pieces can be played very well or at least adapted to the harp. My principal criterion is always the question if I can remain faithful to the composer’s intentions. The work should sound at least as good as the original was conceived to sound...”
And needless to say, the mission was clearly accomplished: here the harp as you have rarely heard it!
He is the only French musician to this day who has succeeded in entering into the “most venerable” of international orchestras, the legendary Vienna Philharmonic. His ceaseless energy in promoting the harp and its neglected repertoire have earned him praise from audiences and critics alike and have found expression at Claves in the form of two recordings dedicated to rare chamber music (CD 50-2405) and the concertante repertoire (CD 50-2206) for his instrument.
