BASQUE MUSIC COLLECTION, VOL. VII: AITA DONOSTIA
Aita Donostia was born in San Sebastián and died in Lecároz; Navarra; where he spent his life as a member of the Capuchin order. He was not only a proficient composer in a variety of genres but also acclaimed as an expert in Basque folklore. This CD features seven of his compositions performed by the Basque National Orchestra (three together with the Andra Mari Choir) under the baton of the orchestra’s Musical Director Cristian Mandeal; the majority of which are first recordings.
We are pleased to present the seventh volume in our series dedicated to the music of Basque composers. This release features symphonic works by Aita Donostia (Aita is the Basque word for ‘Father’) and follows volumes with music by Pablo Sorozábal; Francisco Escudero; Andrés Isasi; Jesús Arámbarri; José María Usandizaga and Jesús Guridi.
